Suguru Solution

This is for if you really get stuck at any point.
The solution is given in 19 stages and the
board shapes are given names for reference.
Here goes!.
solution

  1. 1 goes in the 1-block (of course)
  2. 5 goes in the very centre square as any other number would make the Short-L impossible.
  3. 5 goes in the bottom square of the Top-Y, any other number blocks the Long-L squares.
  4. This needs some thought. The square in the Bottom-Y just below the centre 5 must be a 4. It obviously can’t be a 5 and 1,2 or 3 would block out most of the Bottom-Z and force the square at right end of the Bottom-Z to be 1,2 or 3. This can’t be because 1,2 or 3 would make the 3-block inpossible. So to sum up, the square in the Bottom-Y just below the centre 5 must be a 4.
  5. This means the square at the right end of the Bottom-Z must be 4.
  6. This leaves only one squre free in th Long-L for number 4.
  7. One of the top three squares of the Short-L must be 4 and one of the two left squares of the Top-Y must be a 4. The two 4’s have only two spaces where they won’t clash so you can enter both in.
  8. The Top-Z has only one square free for 4 at bottom left. 2 must be next to it so as not to make the 2-block impossible. For the same reason the 1 must be in the top right of the Top-Z. This is where you should be so far. solution
  9. The Bottom-Y has only one square free for 2. And 1 must go in next to the 4.
  10. 1 must go at the right end of the Short-L and 2 next to it and 3 in the last square of the Short-L.
  11. In the Top-Z. 3 must go next to the 1 and 5 below the 3.
  12. In the Bottom-Y, 3 must go at the left end and 5 next to it.
  13. In the top left 2-block, 2 goes at the top and 1 below it.
  14. In the top-Y, the only place for 1 is at the right end, 2 next to it and 3 at the left end. You should be here at this point. solution
  15. In the Long-L, 1 must go at the right end, 2 next left and 3 next left again.
  16. In the 3-block, the top square cannot be 1 or 2 so must be 3.
  17. This needs some thought. In the Bottom-Z, the square to the left of 4 cannot be 2, 3 or 5 so it must be 1.
  18. In the 3-block, 1 must be in the corner and 2 to the left.
  19. In the Bottom-Z, 2 can only be in the centre of the row of three blanks, 5 to the right and 3 to the left. solution
