Margaret Brydges tomb
After the death of her husband William in 1627, Margaret Brydges moved from Bosbury to Larport Court, a small manor house in the village of Mordiford. The village is situated on the river Lugg where it joins the Wye just south of Hereford. In Holy Rood Church in Mordiford is an elegant tomb on the east wall of the south chapel showing Margaret kneeling at her prayers:



with an inscription beneath:


Here lyeth ye body of Margaret ye daughter of William
Vaughan of Courtefield in the County of Monmouth Gent[leman]
and the late wife and widdowe of Will Brydges
of Upleadon in the Parish of Bosbury in the
County of Hereford Gent[leman} who died
at her prayers in the forme as

14 day of Aprill
1655
Aged 80 years
