Articles of Agreement between William Bodenham & James Farmer for a Lease of Lands of Quarry Close
and Bishops Ditch. Dated 16th Feby. 1707 for 99 years
Articles of Agreement made the sixteenth day of
February in the sixth year of the her Majesties Reign Queen Ann of Great Brittain and in the year of our Lord
1707. Between William Bodenham, Wytham in the County of Essex, Gent. on the one Parte, and James Farmer of the
Parish of Bosbury in the County of Hereford Yeoman of the other Parte as followeth:
Whereas Herbert Late Lord Bishop of Hereford [Bishop Herbert Croft] by two severall Inventories of Lease under
his episcopal seal the one of the Leases bearing the date the thirteenth day of July in the yeare of our Lord
1686; the other bearing date the 18th Day of October 1684, both which Leases are made or meant to be made
Between the Lord Bishop on the one parte, and Elizabeth Harford, Widdow on the other part, then of the Parish
of Bosbury in the County of Hereford did, by the first mentioned Indenture of Lease, demise and grant unto the
said Elizabeth Harford, her Heires and Assignes all his Scite of the Mannor of Bosbury with the Warran of the
same and divers other Messuages Buildings Lands and Tenements to hold by same in the first mentioned Lease granted
to her the said Elizabeth Harford her Heires and Assignes for the lives of John, Thomas & Richard Brydges, second,
third and fourth sons of William Bryges and the life of the longest liver of them.
And the said mentioned Indenture of Lease did likewise demise and Grant unto the said Elizabeth Harford her
Heires and Assigns, Divers Messuages and Lands therein mentioned to have and to hold for the lives of the said
Elizabeth Harford, Elizabeth Dannett and Ann Dannett and the life of the longest liver of them and whereas
divers covenants in the said Indentures of Leases contained as in and by the said several Indentures &
Leases the same may appear Relation being thereunto and whereas the Estate is now vested in the said William
Bodenham his Heires and Assigns; the William Bodenham for the consideration for the sum of two shillings &
six pence of Lawful money of England in hand paid to mee the said William Bodenham at the sealing and delivering
of these presents by the said James Farmer and of the sum of one hundred thirty nine pounds seventeen shillings and
six pence like lawful money of England hereinafter covernanted to be paid unto me the said William Bodenham
by the said James Farmer in Mannor following that is to say
all those two parcels of woodland grounds called
Quary Closes containing by estimation six Acres be the same more or less with all manner of woods and
Timber growing thereon and lying between the land of Mr. Henry Boswood on the north and south and the land of William
Turberville on the west side and the land of Mr John Brydges on the east; and one other parcel of woodlands
called Bishops Ditch containing Four Acres be the same more or less with all manner of woods and Timber
now growing and being there; and lying between the Parish Land on the north end and the land of Mr. Janson likewise
on the North and the land of Mr. Henry Boswood on the west the lands of Mr. John Brydges on the south; and four
acres of old lands be the same more of less adjoining to the said woodland called Bishops Ditch on the west side,
and the land of William Bodenham gent. on east side and the lands of Mr. John Brydges on the north and south ende
whereof, with all ways, watercourses and ...............
to have and to hold the same unto Mr. James Farmer his Heires or Assigns from the first day of November next

The document was signed and sealed by Wm. Bodenham and James Farmer made his mark and sealed also. The witnesses were Thomas Lilly, Elizabeth Lilly and Thomas Chadd.
